The G21 Region's occupation statistics quantify the occupations in which recent arrivals (who are residents) work. The work destination may be in the local area or elsewhere.
The type of work done by recent arrivals is influenced by their age structure, qualifications and migration stream. Many of Australia's recent migrants are skilled arrivals who fill identified skill gaps in particular occupation groups.

Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by recent overseas arrivals in G21 Region in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:
- Labourers (1,246 persons or 22.0%)
- Professionals (1,164 persons or 20.5%)
- Community and Personal Service Workers (795 persons or 14.0%)
In combination these three occupations accounted for 3,205 people in total or 56.6% of the employed recent overseas arrivals.
In comparison, Regional VIC employed 30.6% in Labourers; 20.8% in Professionals; and 12.4% in Community and Personal Service Workers.
The major differences between the jobs held by the recent overseas arriving population of G21 Region and Regional VIC were:
- A larger percentage of people employed as Machinery Operators And Drivers (9.2% compared to 5.8%)
- A larger percentage of people employed as Technicians and Trades Workers (13.3% compared to 11.1%)
- A larger percentage of people employed as Sales Workers (7.1% compared to 4.9%)
- A smaller percentage of people employed as Labourers (22.0% compared to 30.6%)
