The Age Structure of the non-English speaking population in the City of Canning provides key insights into the level of demand for age based services and facilities such as child care, and language services. Non-English speaking populations may have a quite different age profile to the general population, for instance in a student area, they are likely to be younger, however an area which received a lot of post-war migration may have an older non-English speaking population, and perhaps many second-generation speakers.

Dominant groups
Analysis of the Arabic speaking population in the City of Canning in 2021 compared to Greater Perth shows that there was a higher proportion of people in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of people in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 30.4% of the Arabic speaking population was aged between 0 and 14, and 5.1% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 25.9% and 6.1% respectively for Greater Perth.
The major differences between the age groups of the Arabic speaking population in the City of Canning and Greater Perth were:
- A larger percentage of people aged 10 to 14 (12.0% compared to 10.0%)
- A larger percentage of people aged 5 to 9 (11.0% compared to 9.2%)
- A smaller percentage of people aged 55 to 59 (2.4% compared to 4.4%)
- A smaller percentage of people aged 30 to 34 (7.1% compared to 8.5%)
Emerging groups
From 2016 to 2021, City of Canning's Arabic speaking population increased by 270 people (23.3%). This represents an average annual population change of 4.27% per year over the period.
The largest changes in the age groups of the Arabic speaking population in this area between 2016 and 2021 were in the age groups:
- 10 to 14 (+66 persons)
- 15 to 19 (+66 persons)
- 40 to 44 (+50 persons)
