Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in City of Canning in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Construction (2,610 males or 10.2%)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (2,376 males or 9.3%)
  • Transport, Postal and Warehousing (2,298 males or 9.0%)

In combination, these three industries employed 7,284 males in total or 28.4% of the total employed male resident population.

In comparison, Riverton employed 11.2% in Construction; 11.9% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services; and 6.4% in Transport, Postal and Warehousing.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of the City of Canning and Riverton were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed in transport, postal and warehousing (9.0% compared to 6.4%)
  • A larger percentage of males employed in administrative and support services (3.4% compared to 1.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in professional, scientific and technical services (9.3% compared to 11.9%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in education and training (5.0% compared to 6.6%)

The number of employed males in City of Canning increased by 2,180 between 2011 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the male resident population between 2011 and 2021 in the City of Canning were for those employed in:

  • Manufacturing (-1,064 males)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+702 males)
  • Transport, Postal and Warehousing (+633 males)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (+584 males)
