There were more male professionals in Hawthorn in 2021 than any other occupation.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in Hawthorn in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:

  • Professionals (2,677 males or 41.4%)
  • Managers (1,244 males or 19.3%)
  • Technicians and Trades Workers (575 males or 8.9%)

In combination these three occupations accounted for 4,496 males in total or 69.6% of the employed male resident population.

In comparison, Surrey Hills employed 38.4% in Professionals; 25.8% in Managers; and 7.6% in Technicians and Trades Workers.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of Hawthorn and Surrey Hills were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed as Professionals (41.4% compared to 38.4%)
  • A larger percentage of males employed as Clerical and Administrative Workers (7.7% compared to 5.5%)
  • A larger percentage of males employed as Technicians and Trades Workers (8.9% compared to 7.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed as Managers (19.3% compared to 25.8%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed males in Hawthorn increased by 20 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the occupations of male residents between 2016 and 2021 in Hawthorn were for those employed as:

  • Sales Workers (-94 males)
  • Managers (+72 males)
  • Community and Personal Service Workers (-52 males)
