Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in Canterbury in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (343 males or 18.5%)
- Health Care and Social Assistance (227 males or 12.2%)
- Retail Trade (165 males or 8.9%)
In combination, these three industries employed 735 males in total or 39.6% of the total employed male resident population.
In comparison, Ashburton employed 17.6% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services; 7.2% in Health Care and Social Assistance; and 8.0% in Retail Trade.
The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of Canterbury and Ashburton were:
- A larger percentage of males employed in health care and social assistance (12.2% compared to 7.2%)
- A smaller percentage of males employed in manufacturing (4.6% compared to 6.9%)
- A smaller percentage of males employed in education and training (5.6% compared to 6.9%)
- A smaller percentage of males employed in transport, postal and warehousing (2.9% compared to 4.2%)
Emerging groups
The number of employed males in Canterbury decreased by 56 between 2016 and 2021.
There were no major differences in Canterbury between 2016 and 2021.
