Dominant groups
Analysis of the female five year age groups of Canterbury in 2021 compared to Solway Ward shows that there was a lower proportion of females in the younger age groups (under 15) and a higher proportion of females in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 14.7% of the female population was aged between 0 and 15, and 24.4% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 18.4% and 18.0% respectively for Solway Ward.
The major differences between the female age structure of Canterbury and Solway Ward were:
- A larger percentage of females aged 85 and over (5.1% compared to 3.1%)
- A larger percentage of females aged 70 to 74 (5.8% compared to 4.2%)
- A smaller percentage of females aged 0 to 4 (2.9% compared to 4.6%)
- A smaller percentage of females aged 5 to 9 (4.7% compared to 6.2%)
Emerging groups
From 2011 to 2021, Canterbury's female population decreased by 133 people (3.2%). This represents an average annual population change of -0.33% per year over the period.
The largest changes in female age structure in this area between 2011 and 2021 were in the age groups:
- 70 to 74 (+119 females)
- 65 to 69 (+73 females)
- 45 to 49 (-62 females)
- 40 to 44 (-54 females)
