Dominant groups

Analysis of the service age groups of Planning area 4 in 2021 compared to Planning area 2 shows that there was a lower proportion of people in the younger age groups (0 to 17 years) and a higher proportion of people in the older age groups (60+ years).

Overall, 12.3% of the population was aged between 0 and 17, and 52.5% were aged 60 years and over, compared with 15.9% and 41.2% respectively for Planning area 2.

The major differences between the age structure of Planning area 4 and Planning area 2 were:

  • A larger percentage of 'Seniors' (25.3% compared to 19.0%)
  • A larger percentage of 'Empty nesters and retirees' (21.8% compared to 18.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of 'Parents and homebuilders' (11.1% compared to 13.6%)
