More Planning area 3 residents worked in health care and social assistance than any other industry in 2021.

This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Planning area 3 in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (1,373 people or 15.8%)
  • Construction (1,130 people or 13.0%)
  • Public Administration and Safety (1,024 people or 11.8%)

In combination, these three industries employed 3,527 people in total or 40.6% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Milton employed 13.7% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 13.5% in Construction; and 7.2% in Public Administration and Safety.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Planning area 3 and Milton were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in public administration and safety (11.8% compared to 7.2%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (15.8% compared to 13.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in professional, scientific and technical services (4.6% compared to 9.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (1.0% compared to 4.9%)

The number of employed people in Planning area 3 increased by 2,839 between 2006 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the resident population between 2006 and 2021 in Planning area 3 were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+675 persons)
  • Construction (+470 persons)
  • Public Administration and Safety (+417 persons)
  • Education and Training (+281 persons)
