This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.
When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in Planning area 2 in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:
- Construction (334 males or 23.6%)
- Public Administration and Safety (195 males or 13.8%)
- Accommodation and Food Services (105 males or 7.4%)
In combination, these three industries employed 634 males in total or 44.7% of the total employed male resident population.
In comparison, the Milton-Ulladulla Structure Plan area employed 25.2% in Construction; 6.7% in Public Administration and Safety; and 10.9% in Accommodation and Food Services.
The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of Planning area 2 and the Milton-Ulladulla Structure Plan area were:
- A larger percentage of males employed in public administration and safety (13.8% compared to 6.7%)
- A larger percentage of males employed in manufacturing (7.1% compared to 4.5%)
- A smaller percentage of males employed in retail trade (6.3% compared to 10.3%)
- A smaller percentage of males employed in accommodation and food services (7.4% compared to 10.9%)

The number of employed males in Planning area 2 increased by 204 between 2016 and 2021.
There were no major differences in Planning area 2 between 2016 and 2021.
