Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in Essendon in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:
- Health Care and Social Assistance (1,153 females or 19.4%)
- Education and Training (816 females or 13.7%)
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (616 females or 10.3%)
In combination, these three industries employed 2,585 females in total or 43.4% of the total employed female resident population.
In comparison, Essendon North employed 21.1% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 12.2% in Education and Training; and 8.7% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services.
The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of Essendon and Essendon North were:
- A larger percentage of females employed in professional, scientific and technical services (10.3% compared to 8.7%)
- A larger percentage of females employed in retail trade (10.2% compared to 8.6%)
- A larger percentage of females employed in education and training (13.7% compared to 12.2%)
- A smaller percentage of females employed in health care and social assistance (19.4% compared to 21.1%)

The number of employed females in Essendon increased by 497 between 2016 and 2021.
The largest changes in the jobs held by the female resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Essendon were for those employed in:
- Health Care and Social Assistance (+198 females)
- Public Administration and Safety (+96 females)
- Construction (+73 females)
