Occupation of employment

There were more female professionals in G21 Region in 2021 than any other occupation.

G21 Region's occupation statistics quantify the occupations in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the economic base and employment opportunities available in the area, education levels, and the working and social aspirations of the population. When viewed with other indicators, such as Educational Qualifications and Individual Income, Occupation is a key measure for evaluating G21 Region's socio-economic status and skill base.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in G21 Region in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:

  • Professionals (23,061 females or 27.1%)
  • Community and Personal Service Workers (16,243 females or 19.1%)
  • Clerical and Administrative Workers (14,855 females or 17.5%)

In combination these three occupations accounted for 54,159 females in total or 63.7% of the employed female resident population.

In comparison, Regional VIC employed 24.1% in Professionals; 19.2% in Community and Personal Service Workers; and 17.7% in Clerical and Administrative Workers.

The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of G21 Region and Regional VIC were:

  • A larger percentage of females employed as Professionals (27.1% compared to 24.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed as Labourers (7.2% compared to 9.2%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed females in G21 Region increased by 18,045 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the occupations of female residents between 2016 and 2021 in G21 Region were for those employed as:

  • Professionals (+6,494 females)
  • Community and Personal Service Workers (+3,887 females)
  • Managers (+2,662 females)
  • Clerical and Administrative Workers (+1,991 females)
