More G21 Region female residents worked in health care and social assistance than any other industry in 2021.

G21 Region's industry statistics identify the industry sectors in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.

When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in G21 Region in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (22,769 females or 26.8%)
  • Education and Training (11,715 females or 13.8%)
  • Retail Trade (10,212 females or 12.0%)

In combination, these three industries employed 44,696 females in total or 52.6% of the total employed female resident population.

In comparison, Regional VIC employed 26.8% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 13.1% in Education and Training; and 11.5% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of G21 Region and Regional VIC were:

  • A larger percentage of females employed in professional, scientific and technical services (5.8% compared to 4.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (1.5% compared to 4.5%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed females in G21 Region increased by 18,089 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the female resident population between 2016 and 2021 in G21 Region were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+6,279 females)
  • Education and Training (+2,591 females)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+1,505 females)
  • Public Administration and Safety (+1,192 females)
