Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in Cairns City in 2016 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Accommodation and Food Services (142 males or 22.4%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (68 males or 10.7%)
  • Transport, Postal and Warehousing (49 males or 7.7%)

In combination, these three industries employed 259 males in total or 40.9% of the total employed male resident population.

In comparison, Kanimbla employed 10.1% in Accommodation and Food Services; 9.0% in Health Care and Social Assistance; and 9.1% in Transport, Postal and Warehousing.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of Cairns City and Kanimbla were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed in accommodation and food services (22.4% compared to 10.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in construction (5.8% compared to 12.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in public administration and safety (5.0% compared to 11.2%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in education and training (2.7% compared to 5.1%)
