Location and boundaries

Westcourt is bounded by Gatton Street in the north, the suburb of Parramatta Park, the waterway and Fearnley Street in the east, Mulgrave Road in the south, and McCoombe Street, Givens Street, Dillon Street, Lennon Street and Tills Street in the west.

Name origin

Westcourt is named for its location to the west of Cairns.

Settlement history

Settlement of the area dates from the 1880s, with gradual expansion during the early 1900s. Significant development occurred from the 1960s, with rapid growth during the 1970s. The population declined slightly during the 1990s, and then increased between 2001 and 2011 as new dwellings were added to the area, particularly high density housing. The population and dwelling stock were relatively stable between 2011 and 2016.

Westcourt is a predominantly residential area, with some commercial land use.
