Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in Cairns City in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Accommodation and Food Services (155 males or 22.8%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (81 males or 11.9%)
  • Construction (63 males or 9.3%)

In combination, these three industries employed 299 males in total or 43.9% of the total employed male resident population.

In comparison, Holloways Beach - Machans Beach employed 7.4% in Accommodation and Food Services; 10.4% in Health Care and Social Assistance; and 18.6% in Construction.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of Cairns City and Holloways Beach - Machans Beach were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed in accommodation and food services (22.8% compared to 7.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in construction (9.3% compared to 18.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in manufacturing (3.2% compared to 5.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in education and training (1.9% compared to 4.4%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed males in Cairns City increased by 47 between 2016 and 2021.

There were no major differences in Cairns City between 2016 and 2021.
