Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in Cairns City in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Accommodation and Food Services (155 males or 22.8%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (81 males or 11.9%)
  • Construction (63 males or 9.3%)

In combination, these three industries employed 299 males in total or 43.9% of the total employed male resident population.

In comparison, Cairns employed 9.1% in Accommodation and Food Services; 8.8% in Health Care and Social Assistance; and 15.0% in Construction.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of Cairns City and Cairns were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed in accommodation and food services (22.8% compared to 9.1%)
  • A larger percentage of males employed in health care and social assistance (11.9% compared to 8.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in construction (9.3% compared to 15.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in education and training (1.9% compared to 4.7%)
