Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Ward 1 in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:
- Health Care and Social Assistance (6,672 people or 13.8%)
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (4,896 people or 10.1%)
- Retail Trade (4,549 people or 9.4%)
In combination, these three industries employed 16,117 people in total or 33.2% of the total employed resident population.
In comparison, Blacktown City employed 14.8% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 7.4% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services; and 10.0% in Retail Trade.
The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Ward 1 and Blacktown City were:
- A larger percentage of persons employed in professional, scientific and technical services (10.1% compared to 7.4%)
- A larger percentage of persons employed in financial and insurance services (8.4% compared to 6.4%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed in transport, postal and warehousing (5.8% compared to 8.1%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed in manufacturing (6.3% compared to 7.5%)
Emerging groups
The number of employed people in Ward 1 increased by 13,215 between 2016 and 2021.
The largest changes in the jobs held by the resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Ward 1 were for those employed in:
- Health Care and Social Assistance (+2,472 persons)
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+2,159 persons)
- Financial and Insurance Services (+1,571 persons)
- Education and Training (+1,101 persons)
