Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Rural West in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (218 people or 17.4%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (166 people or 13.2%)
  • Construction (132 people or 10.5%)

In combination, these three industries employed 516 people in total or 41.1% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Bega Valley Shire employed 6.6% in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing; 16.0% in Health Care and Social Assistance; and 10.2% in Construction.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Rural West and Bega Valley Shire were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (17.4% compared to 6.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in accommodation and food services (5.9% compared to 9.9%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in retail trade (7.6% compared to 10.5%)
