Location and boundaries

Rural East is a large area that encompasses the east side of the Snowy Monaro district. Along the northern border is the Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council. The east is bounded by Cowangerong Firetrail, Flat Range Firetrail, Bald Peak Road, Anembo Road, Slap-Up Forest Road, Slap-Up Firetrail, Badja Road, Badja Firetrail, Eurobadalla, Tuross River, Jumping Creek Firetrail, and Bega Valley. Coolangubra Forest Way, New Trig Road, Wog Way, and Pheasants Peak Trail.

East Gippsland and the State of Victoria lie on a sloping boundary to the southwest. The western boundary is boarded by the localities of Byadbo Wilderness, Jimenbuen, Ironmungy, Dalgety, Berridale, Arable, Coolringdon, Cooma, Middle Flat, Bunyan, Chakola, Bredbo, Colinton, and Michelago.
