Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Hay Shire in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (293 people or 22.9%)
  • Retail Trade (131 people or 10.3%)
  • Construction (118 people or 9.2%)

In combination, these three industries employed 542 people in total or 42.4% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Riverina and Murray Region employed 10.7% in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing; 9.3% in Retail Trade; and 8.6% in Construction.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Hay Shire and Riverina and Murray Region were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (22.9% compared to 10.7%)
