Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Riverina and Murray Region in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (9,778 people or 13.9%)
  • Manufacturing (7,671 people or 10.9%)
  • Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (7,534 people or 10.7%)

In combination, these three industries employed 24,983 people in total or 35.6% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Regional NSW employed 16.3% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 5.6% in Manufacturing; and 5.1% in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Riverina and Murray Region and Regional NSW were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (10.7% compared to 5.1%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in manufacturing (10.9% compared to 5.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (13.9% compared to 16.3%)
