In 2021, 21,810 people aged 25 to 34 years living in Wollongong City Council were employed, of which were working full time and 28.9% part time.

Employment statistics are an important indicator of socio-economic status. The levels of full or part-time employment, unemployment and labour force participation indicate the strength of the local economy and social characteristics of the population. Typically, unemployment among youth (under 25) and seniors (over 55) are regarded as important indicators of social cohesion.

Dominant groups

The size of Wollongong City Council's labour force aged 25 to 34 years in 2021 was 22,848 persons, of which 6,307 were employed part-time and 12,715 were full time workers.

Analysis of the employment status of people aged 25 to 34 years (as a percentage of the labour force) in Wollongong City Council in 2021 compared to Regional NSW shows that there was a similar proportion in employment, as well as a similar proportion unemployed. Overall, 95.5% of the labour force aged 25 to 34 years was employed and 4.5% unemployed, compared with 95.6% and 4.4% respectively for Regional NSW.

Analysis of the labour force participation rate of the population aged 25 to 34 years in Wollongong City Council in 2021 shows that there was a higher proportion in the labour force (80.4%) compared with Regional NSW (78.9%).

Emerging groups

Between 2016 and 2021, the number of people aged 25 to 34 years employed in Wollongong City Council showed an increase of 3,015 persons and the number unemployed showed a decrease of 251 persons.
