Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the non-English speaking resident population in Wollongong City in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:
- Professionals (3,840 people or 27.0%)
- Community and Personal Service Workers (1,696 people or 11.9%)
- Technicians and Trades Workers (1,659 people or 11.7%)
In combination these three occupations accounted for 7,195 people in total or 50.7% of the employed resident population.
In comparison, the total population in Wollongong City Council employed 25.1% in Professionals; 12.9% in Community and Personal Service Workers; and 14.0% in Technicians and Trades Workers.
The major differences between the jobs held by the non-English speaking population of Wollongong City and the total population in Wollongong City Council were:
- A larger percentage of people employed as Labourers (11.0% compared to 8.4%)
- A larger percentage of people employed as Professionals (27.0% compared to 25.1%)
- A smaller percentage of people employed as Technicians and Trades Workers (11.7% compared to 14.0%)
- A smaller percentage of people employed as Clerical and Administrative Workers (11.1% compared to 12.5%)
