Dominant groups
Analysis of the five year age groups of South West Queensland ROC in 2021 compared to Paroo Shire shows that there was a similar proportion of people in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of people in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 18.4% of the population was aged between 0 and 15, and 19.6% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 18.3% and 27.6% respectively for Paroo Shire.
The major differences between the age structure of South West Queensland ROC and Paroo Shire were:
- A larger percentage of persons aged 35 to 39 (6.0% compared to 3.9%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 70 to 74 (5.6% compared to 8.5%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 65 to 69 (6.9% compared to 9.5%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 60 to 64 (7.8% compared to 10.2%)

From 2016 to 2021, South West Queensland ROC's population increased by 60 people (0.2%). This represents an average annual population change of 0.05% per year over the period.
The largest changes in age structure in this area between 2016 and 2021 were in the age groups:
- 70 to 74 (+303 persons)
- 60 to 64 (+282 persons)
- 40 to 44 (-219 persons)
- 45 to 49 (-207 persons)
