Epping's occupation statistics quantify the occupations in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the economic base and employment opportunities available in the area, education levels, and the working and social aspirations of the population. When viewed with other indicators, such as Educational Qualifications and Individual Income, Occupation is a key measure for evaluating Epping's socio-economic status and skill base.

Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Epping in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:
- Professionals (6,404 people or 44.4%)
- Managers (2,027 people or 14.1%)
- Clerical and Administrative Workers (1,909 people or 13.2%)
In combination these three occupations accounted for 10,340 people in total or 71.7% of the employed resident population.
In comparison, Newington employed 34.5% in Professionals; 21.0% in Managers; and 14.3% in Clerical and Administrative Workers.
The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Epping and Newington were:
- A larger percentage of persons employed as Professionals (44.4% compared to 34.5%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed as Managers (14.1% compared to 21.0%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed as Clerical and Administrative Workers (13.2% compared to 14.3%)
Emerging groups
The number of employed people in Epping increased by 4,373 between 2011 and 2021.
The largest changes in the occupations of residents between 2011 and 2021 in Epping were for those employed as:
- Professionals (+2,436 persons)
- Managers (+655 persons)
- Community and Personal Service Workers (+300 persons)
- Clerical and Administrative Workers (+263 persons)
