Non-English speaking populations may have a quite different age profile to the general population, for instance in a student area, they are likely to be younger, however an area which received a lot of post-war migration may have an older non-English speaking population, and perhaps many second-generation speakers.

Dominant groups
Analysis of the Malayalam speaking population in the City of Parramatta in 2021 compared to New South Wales shows that there was a lower proportion of people in the younger age groups (under 15) as well as a lower proportion of people in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 24.1% of the Malayalam speaking population was aged between 0 and 14, and 1.7% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 26.4% and 2.6% respectively for New South Wales.
The major differences between the age groups of the Malayalam speaking population in the City of Parramatta and New South Wales were:
- A larger percentage of people aged 30 to 34 (18.8% compared to 13.5%)
- A larger percentage of people aged 35 to 39 (19.9% compared to 17.6%)
- A larger percentage of people aged 25 to 29 (7.2% compared to 5.6%)
- A smaller percentage of people aged 10 to 14 (6.3% compared to 7.9%)
Emerging groups
From 2016 to 2021, City of Parramatta's Malayalam speaking population increased by 412 people (27.3%). This represents an average annual population change of 4.94% per year over the period.
The largest changes in the age groups of the Malayalam speaking population in this area between 2016 and 2021 were in the age groups:
- 35 to 39 (+113 persons)
- 40 to 44 (+79 persons)
- 45 to 49 (+58 persons)
- 10 to 14 (+52 persons)
