Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in Parramatta in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (2,257 males or 24.5%)
  • Financial and Insurance Services (961 males or 10.4%)
  • Retail Trade (760 males or 8.2%)

In combination, these three industries employed 3,978 males in total or 43.2% of the total employed male resident population.

In comparison, Westmead employed 17.3% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services; 9.6% in Financial and Insurance Services; and 9.2% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of Parramatta and Westmead were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed in professional, scientific and technical services (24.5% compared to 17.3%)
  • A larger percentage of males employed in construction (5.2% compared to 4.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in health care and social assistance (6.3% compared to 12.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in transport, postal and warehousing (6.1% compared to 8.9%)

The number of employed males in Parramatta increased by 1,664 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the male resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Parramatta were for those employed in:

  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+570 males)
  • Financial and Insurance Services (+255 males)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+223 males)
  • Transport, Postal and Warehousing (+130 males)
