Dominant groups
Analysis of the language spoken at home by people aged 35 to 54 years in the City of Parramatta in 2021 compared to Greater Sydney shows that there was a smaller proportion of people who spoke English only, and a larger proportion of those speaking a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).
Overall, 32.8% of people aged 35 to 54 years spoke English only, and 61.9% of% spoke a non-English language, compared with 53.3% and 41.8% respectively for Greater Sydney.
Other than English, the dominant language spoken at home by people aged 35 to 54 years in the City of Parramatta was Mandarin, with 12.9% of the population, or 9,648 people speaking this language at home.
The major differences between the languages spoken at home for people aged 35 to 54 years of the City of Parramatta and Greater Sydney in 2021 were:

The largest changes in the spoken languages of people aged 35 to 54 years in the City of Parramatta between 2016 and 2021 were for those speaking:
