Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Launceston in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (383 people or 22.7%)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (195 people or 11.6%)
  • Retail Trade (166 people or 9.9%)

In combination, these three industries employed 744 people in total or 44.2% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, the City of Launceston employed 19.6% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 8.2% in Accommodation and Food Services; and 10.8% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Launceston and the City of Launceston were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in accommodation and food services (11.6% compared to 8.2%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (22.7% compared to 19.6%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in professional, scientific and technical services (6.8% compared to 4.7%)
