Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in City of Launceston in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (4,819 females or 30.2%)
  • Education and Training (2,078 females or 13.0%)
  • Retail Trade (1,903 females or 11.9%)

In combination, these three industries employed 8,800 females in total or 55.2% of the total employed female resident population.

In comparison, Regional TAS employed 26.1% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 12.9% in Education and Training; and 12.1% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of the City of Launceston and Regional TAS were:

  • A larger percentage of females employed in health care and social assistance (30.2% compared to 26.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (1.8% compared to 4.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in manufacturing (3.0% compared to 4.1%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed females in City of Launceston increased by 2,295 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the female resident population between 2016 and 2021 in the City of Launceston were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+1,256 females)
  • Education and Training (+164 females)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+145 females)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (+132 females)
