More Division 11 female residents worked in health care and social assistance than any other industry in 2021.

This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.

When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in Division 11 in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (2,760 females or 23.4%)
  • Education and Training (1,526 females or 12.9%)
  • Retail Trade (1,471 females or 12.5%)

In combination, these three industries employed 5,757 females in total or 48.7% of the total employed female resident population.

In comparison, Gold Coast City employed 23.2% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 12.1% in Education and Training; and 12.0% in Retail Trade.

There were no major differences between Division 11 and Gold Coast City in 2021.

Emerging groups

The number of employed females in Division 11 increased by 1,851 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the female resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Division 11 were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+804 females)
  • Education and Training (+265 females)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+169 females)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (+118 females)
