More Division 02 residents worked in health care and social assistance than any other industry in 2021.

Division 02's industry statistics identify the industry sectors in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.

When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Division 02 in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (3,005 people or 13.6%)
  • Construction (2,659 people or 12.0%)
  • Retail Trade (2,292 people or 10.4%)

In combination, these three industries employed 7,956 people in total or 35.9% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Paradise Point - Hollywell employed 12.8% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 13.6% in Construction; and 10.1% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Division 02 and Paradise Point - Hollywell were:

  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in rental, hiring and real estate services (3.1% compared to 4.9%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in construction (12.0% compared to 13.6%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed people in Division 02 increased by 2,861 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Division 02 were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+759 persons)
  • Education and Training (+341 persons)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+328 persons)
  • Construction (+281 persons)
