More Division 13 male residents worked in construction than any other industry in 2021.

Division 13's industry statistics identify the industry sectors in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.

When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in Division 13 in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Construction (2,132 males or 22.7%)
  • Retail Trade (752 males or 8.0%)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (720 males or 7.7%)

In combination, these three industries employed 3,604 males in total or 38.3% of the total employed male resident population.

In comparison, Gold Coast City employed 19.3% in Construction; 8.7% in Retail Trade; and 8.1% in Accommodation and Food Services.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of Division 13 and Gold Coast City were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed in construction (22.7% compared to 19.3%)
  • A larger percentage of males employed in education and training (5.8% compared to 4.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in transport, postal and warehousing (4.1% compared to 5.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in manufacturing (6.0% compared to 7.4%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed males in Division 13 increased by 718 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the male resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Division 13 were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+207 males)
  • Construction (+184 males)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+74 males)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (+58 males)
