Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in Gold Coast City in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Construction (29,520 males or 19.3%)
  • Retail Trade (13,353 males or 8.7%)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (12,441 males or 8.1%)

In combination, these three industries employed 55,314 males in total or 36.2% of the total employed male resident population.

In comparison, South East Queensland employed 15.8% in Construction; 8.1% in Retail Trade; and 6.3% in Accommodation and Food Services.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of Gold Coast City and South East Queensland were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed in construction (19.3% compared to 15.8%)
  • A larger percentage of males employed in accommodation and food services (8.1% compared to 6.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in professional, scientific and technical services (6.7% compared to 8.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in public administration and safety (4.5% compared to 6.2%)

The number of employed males in Gold Coast City increased by 32,347 between 2011 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the male resident population between 2011 and 2021 in Gold Coast City were for those employed in:

  • Construction (+6,989 males)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+4,950 males)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (+2,678 males)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+2,594 males)
