More Division 03 residents worked in health care and social assistance than any other industry in 2021.

Division 03's industry statistics identify the industry sectors in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.

When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Division 03 in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (3,633 people or 13.9%)
  • Construction (3,282 people or 12.6%)
  • Retail Trade (2,946 people or 11.3%)

In combination, these three industries employed 9,861 people in total or 37.7% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Division 10 employed 12.5% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 8.8% in Construction; and 9.2% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Division 03 and Division 10 were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in construction (12.6% compared to 8.8%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in manufacturing (6.7% compared to 3.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in accommodation and food services (7.5% compared to 13.9%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in rental, hiring and real estate services (1.9% compared to 4.6%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed people in Division 03 increased by 10,918 between 2011 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the resident population between 2011 and 2021 in Division 03 were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+2,122 persons)
  • Construction (+1,282 persons)
  • Education and Training (+1,156 persons)
  • Retail Trade (+1,152 persons)
