More Division 08 female residents worked in health care and social assistance than any other industry in 2021.

Division 08's industry statistics identify the industry sectors in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.

When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in Division 08 in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (2,333 females or 23.3%)
  • Education and Training (1,233 females or 12.3%)
  • Retail Trade (1,223 females or 12.2%)

In combination, these three industries employed 4,789 females in total or 47.9% of the total employed female resident population.

In comparison, Hope Island employed 18.2% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 10.6% in Education and Training; and 10.4% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of Division 08 and Hope Island were:

  • A larger percentage of females employed in health care and social assistance (23.3% compared to 18.2%)
  • A larger percentage of females employed in retail trade (12.2% compared to 10.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in construction (3.2% compared to 5.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in rental, hiring and real estate services (3.2% compared to 5.1%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed females in Division 08 increased by 906 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the female resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Division 08 were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+545 females)
  • Education and Training (+167 females)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+149 females)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (-99 females)
