Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Merrimac in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (585 people or 16.2%)
  • Retail Trade (422 people or 11.7%)
  • Construction (364 people or 10.1%)

In combination, these three industries employed 1,371 people in total or 37.9% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Guanaba - Springbrook employed 13.9% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 7.6% in Retail Trade; and 14.9% in Construction.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Merrimac and Guanaba - Springbrook were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in retail trade (11.7% compared to 7.6%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in accommodation and food services (9.4% compared to 6.9%)
