More Division 01 female residents worked in health care and social assistance than any other industry in 2021.

Division 01's industry statistics identify the industry sectors in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.

When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in Division 01 in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (2,852 females or 22.5%)
  • Retail Trade (1,593 females or 12.6%)
  • Education and Training (1,533 females or 12.1%)

In combination, these three industries employed 5,978 females in total or 47.2% of the total employed female resident population.

In comparison, Burleigh Waters employed 22.5% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 11.0% in Retail Trade; and 14.4% in Education and Training.

The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of Division 01 and Burleigh Waters were:

  • A larger percentage of females employed in manufacturing (4.4% compared to 2.0%)
  • A larger percentage of females employed in retail trade (12.6% compared to 11.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in education and training (12.1% compared to 14.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in professional, scientific and technical services (4.9% compared to 7.0%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed females in Division 01 increased by 5,088 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the female resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Division 01 were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+1,485 females)
  • Education and Training (+591 females)
  • Retail Trade (+566 females)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (+442 females)
