Dominant groups

Analysis of the household/family types in Division 06 in 2021 compared to Coolangatta shows that there was a higher proportion of couple families with child(ren) as well as a higher proportion of one-parent families. Overall, 16.0% of total families were couple families with child(ren), and 11.2% were one-parent families, compared with 10.6% and 6.6% respectively for Coolangatta.

There were a lower proportion of lone person households and a lower proportion of couples without children. Overall, the proportion of lone person households was 31.4% compared to 33.1% in Coolangatta while the proportion of couples without children was 23.9% compared to 29.7% in Coolangatta.

Emerging groups

The number of households in Division 06 increased by 2,669 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in family/household types in Division 06 between 2016 and 2021 were:

  • Lone person (+1,351 households)
  • Couples without children (+788 households)
  • One parent families (+303 households)
  • Group household (+253 households)
