In Division 01, 39.4% of households were made up of couples with children in 2021, compared with 28.9% in Division 08.

Division 01's household and family structure is one of the most important demographic indicators. It reveals the area's residential role and function, era of settlement and provides key insights into the level of demand for services and facilities as most are related to age and household types.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the household/family types in Division 01 in 2021 compared to Division 08 shows that there was a higher proportion of couple families with child(ren) as well as a higher proportion of one-parent families. Overall, 39.4% of total families were couple families with child(ren), and 13.8% were one-parent families, compared with 28.9% and 11.9% respectively for Division 08.

There were a lower proportion of lone person households and a lower proportion of couples without children. Overall, the proportion of lone person households was 12.0% compared to 23.5% in Division 08 while the proportion of couples without children was 25.4% compared to 26.9% in Division 08.

Emerging groups

The number of households in Division 01 increased by 6,681 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in family/household types in Division 01 between 2016 and 2021 were:

  • Couples with children (+2,421 households)
  • Couples without children (+1,704 households)
  • One parent families (+1,162 households)
  • Lone person (+922 households)
