In 2021, the largest age group in Division 13 was 30 to 34 year olds. The group that changed the most since 2016 was 70 to 74 year olds, increasing by 491 people.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the five year age groups of Division 13 in 2021 compared to Queensland shows that there was a lower proportion of people in the younger age groups (under 15) and a higher proportion of people in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 16.0% of the population was aged between 0 and 15, and 20.1% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 18.7% and 17.0% respectively for Queensland.

The major differences between the age structure of Division 13 and Queensland were:

  • A larger percentage of persons aged 85 and over (2.7% compared to 1.9%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 10 to 14 (5.5% compared to 6.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 15 to 19 (5.0% compared to 6.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 5 to 9 (5.4% compared to 6.4%)

Emerging groups

From 2016 to 2021, Division 13's population increased by 2,297 people (6.4%). This represents an average annual population change of 1.24% per year over the period.

The largest changes in age structure in this area between 2016 and 2021 were in the age groups:

  • 70 to 74 (+491 persons)
  • 35 to 39 (+312 persons)
  • 25 to 29 (+304 persons)
  • 30 to 34 (+293 persons)
