In 2021, the largest age group in Division 01 was 5 to 9 year olds. The group that changed the most since 2016 was 35 to 39 year olds, increasing by 998 people.

The Age Structure of Division 01 provides key insights into the level of demand for age based services and facilities such as child care. It is also an indicator of Division 01's residential role and function and how it is likely to change in the future.

Five year age groups present a classic age profile of the population. Each age group covers exactly five years, which enables direct comparison between each group.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the male five year age groups of Division 01 in 2021 compared to Ashmore shows that there was a higher proportion of males in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of males in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 26.6% of the male population was aged between 0 and 15, and 9.4% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 17.5% and 20.3% respectively for Ashmore.

The major differences between the male age structure of Division 01 and Ashmore were:

  • A larger percentage of males aged 0 to 4 (9.0% compared to 5.5%)
  • A larger percentage of males aged 5 to 9 (9.1% compared to 5.7%)
  • A larger percentage of males aged 25 to 29 (8.1% compared to 5.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of males aged 75 to 79 (1.9% compared to 4.4%)

Emerging groups

From 2016 to 2021, Division 01's male population increased by 9,438 people (55.1%). This represents an average annual population change of 9.17% per year over the period.

The largest changes in male age structure in this area between 2016 and 2021 were in the age groups:

  • 35 to 39 (+998 males)
  • 30 to 34 (+887 males)
  • 25 to 29 (+884 males)
  • 10 to 14 (+872 males)
