The three largest ancestries in Carramar in 2016 were Vietnamese, Chinese and Australian.

Ancestry defines the cultural association and ethnic background of an individual going back three generations. Ancestry is a good measure of the total size of cultural groups in Carramar regardless of where they were born or what language they speak.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the ancestry responses of the population in Carramar in 2016 shows that the top five ancestries nominated were:

  • Vietnamese (627 people or 17.8%)
  • Chinese (370 people or 10.5%)
  • Australian (335 people or 9.5%)
  • English (334 people or 9.5%)
  • Lebanese (219 people or 6.2%)

In combination these five ancestries account for 1,885 responses in total, or 53.48% of all responses.

The major differences between the ancestries of the population in Carramar and Fairfield City were:

  • A larger percentage of people with Lebanese ancestry (6.2% compared to 3.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of people with Assyrian/Chaldean ancestry (1.4% compared to 10.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of people with Italian ancestry (2.2% compared to 6.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of people with Chinese ancestry (10.5% compared to 13.6%)
