Educational Qualifications relate to education outside of primary and secondary school and are one of the most important indicators of socio-economic status. They apply only to people over the age of 15 and include only qualifications gained outside of schooling.
Qualification levels are typically higher among the young (but old enough to have finished school) and decreases with age, due to the increasing importance of education in the job market over time. Australia-wide, females are more likely to have Bachelor or Higher Degree qualifications, while a greater proportion of males have vocational/certificate level qualifications, which are more often associated with trades.

Dominant groups
Analysis of the qualifications of the females in the City of Yarra in 2021 compared to City of Yarra - Total population shows that there was a higher proportion of females holding formal qualifications (Bachelor or higher degree; Advanced Diploma or Diploma; or Vocational qualifications), and a similar proportion of females with no formal qualifications.
Overall, 72.2% of the females aged 15 and over held educational qualifications, and 21.2% had no qualifications, compared with 71.6% and 21.5% respectively for City of Yarra - Total population.
The major differences between qualifications held by females in the City of Yarra and City of Yarra - Total population were:
