The Number of Bedrooms in a dwelling is an indicator of the size of dwellings, and when combined with Dwelling Type information, provides insight into the role the City of Yarra plays in the housing market for different age groups.

Analysis of the number of bedrooms in dwellings for children aged 0 to 4 years in the City of Yarra in 2021 compared to the total population in the City of Yarra, shows that there was a lower proportion of children aged 0 to 4 years in dwellings with 2 bedrooms or less, as well as a lower proportion of dwellings with 4 or more bedrooms.
Overall, 43.1% of children aged 0 to 4 years were in dwellings with 2 bedrooms or less, and 11.6% in 4 or more bedroom dwellings, compared with 50.9% and 12.5% for the total population in the City of Yarra respectively.
The major differences between the number of bedrooms per dwelling children aged 0 to 4 years in the City of Yarra and the total population in the City of Yarra were:
- A larger percentage of people in 3 bedrooms (41.6% compared to 31.9%)
- A larger percentage of people in 2 bedrooms (40.6% compared to 38.5%)
