Dominant groups

Analysis of the country of birth of the non-English speaking population in the City of Yarra in 2021 compared to the total population in the City of Yarra shows that there was a larger proportion of people born overseas.

Overall, 67.6% of the non-English speaking population was born overseas, compared with 28.5% for the total population in the City of Yarra.

The major differences between the countries of birth of the non-English speaking population in the City of Yarra and the total population in the City of Yarra were:

  • A larger percentage of people born in Vietnam (12.6% compared to 2.7%)
  • A larger percentage of people born in China (excludes SARs and Taiwan) (6.5% compared to 1.5%)
  • A larger percentage of people born in Greece (4.9% compared to 1.1%)
  • A larger percentage of people born in Italy (3.0% compared to 0.8%)
