Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in West Wollongong in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:

  • Professionals (674 people or 27.4%)
  • Technicians and Trades Workers (352 people or 14.3%)
  • Community and Personal Service Workers (333 people or 13.5%)

In combination these three occupations accounted for 1,359 people in total or 55.2% of the employed resident population.

In comparison, Wollongong City employed 25.1% in Professionals; 14.0% in Technicians and Trades Workers; and 12.9% in Community and Personal Service Workers.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of West Wollongong and Wollongong City were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed as Professionals (27.4% compared to 25.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed as Clerical and Administrative Workers (10.8% compared to 12.5%)
