Dominant groups
Analysis of the family blending in Sunshine Coast in 2021 compared to South East Queensland shows that there was a higher proportion of step families as well as a higher proportion of blended families. Overall, 11.5% of total couple families with children were step families, and 4.0% were blended families, compared with 10.1% and 4.2% respectively for South East Queensland.
There were a similar proportion of other families and a lower proportion of couples without children. Overall, the proportion of other families was 0.5% compared to 0.5% in South East Queensland while the proportion of intact families was 84.1% compared to 85.3% in South East Queensland.
Emerging groups
The number of couple families with children in Sunshine Coast increased by 5,338 between 2016 and 2021.
The largest changes in family blending in Sunshine Coast between 2016 and 2021 were:
- Intact Family (+3,587 couples with children)
- Step family (+1,647 couples with children)
- Blended family (+59 couples with children)
