Analysis of the unpaid child care provided by the population in the City of Sydney in 2021 compared to SSROC region shows that there was a lower proportion of people who provided unpaid child care either to their own or to other children. Overall, 11.7% of the population provided unpaid child care, compared with 21.8% for SSROC region.
The major differences between the share of the population providing unpaid child care in the City of Sydney and SSROC region were:
- A larger percentage who did not provide care for children (80.5% compared to 71.9%)
- A smaller percentage who provided unpaid childcare for own child/ren (9.9% compared to 18.5%)
- A smaller percentage who provided unpaid childcare for other child/ren (1.8% compared to 3.1%)
