Analysis of the unpaid child care provided by the female population in the City of Sydney in 2021 compared to SSROC region shows that there was a lower proportion of females who provided unpaid child care either to their own or to other children. Overall, 13.6% of the female population provided unpaid child care, compared with 24.1% for SSROC region.
The major differences between the share of the female population providing unpaid child care in the City of Sydney and SSROC region were:
- A larger percentage who did not provide care for children (79.1% compared to 69.9%)
- A smaller percentage who provided unpaid childcare for own child/ren (11.0% compared to 19.8%)
- A smaller percentage who provided unpaid childcare for other child/ren (2.4% compared to 4.0%)
